Paraffin & Frozen Sections

Wax-it specializes in animal tissue processing, paraffin embedding, and sectioning. In addition, we also provide a full range of frozen tissue services which includes tissue embedding and sectioning.

For certain tissues that cannot be easily embedded in wax due to their hardness or when sections thinner than 1µ (e.g. lymph node or kidney) are required, plastics are utilized. For thin sections, JB4, a glycol methacrylate resin, is used.

For harder tissues, JB4+ is used, which allows cutting sections of bone without the use of calcium-removing agents. This is useful to visualize the relationship between osteoid and mineralized bone.

Wax-it offers a number of stains including H&E, Silver stains, PAS and PAS/Diastase, Gram Twort/Ziehl Neelson, Giemsa, Verhoeff’s Elastic, Movat’s, Trichrome, Oil-Red-O, and many others available on request.

Plant Paraffin Sections

Plant histology is processed similarly to that of animal tissue; the main difference is in the staining which uses Safranin and Light Green instead of the Haematoxylin and Eosin. Nonetheless, Wax-it Histology Services has quickly become an expert outsourcing service for plant tissue.

Polymers

Wax-it has developed various techniques to processes various biological polymers, thus enabling us to produce thin sections for experimental purposes.

Immunohistochemistry

Wax-it is fully equipped to handle all of your immunohistochemistry needs. We provide staining on paraffin and frozen sections, using either peroxidase or fluorescent techniques to visualize the results.

Confocal Microscopy

Wax-it is equipped with a fluorescent microscope and has access to a confocal microscope facility for any confocal work that you may require. Furthermore, we also provide antibody titration, testing, and optimization.

Protocol development

Wax-it can expertly and efficiently develop protocols for many of your scientific needs. From working out various immunohistochemistry conditions, to sectioning plastic polymers, we are able to adjust to your specific needs and develop efficient protocols to get you the product you require.
