Job Summary:
Under minimal supervision, prepares human tissue
for pathologist's examination by cutting, staining, andmounting
tissue following established standards and practices.
Essential Functions:

Cuts, embeds, stains, and mounts specimens of human tissue.
-
Prepares and maintains parafin, reagents and other solutions and stains according to standard formulas.
-
Performs quality control and preventive maintenance of equipment related to duties.
-
Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

Maintains neat, legible records for preventive maintenance, calibration, and quality control.
-
Ensure adequate supplies and reagents necessary for the performance of essential functions.
Additional
Responsibilities:

Performs other duties as required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
-
Technical skills in operation of microtome, tissue processor and other equipment necessary in performance of essential functions.

Proficient knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and technical terminology related to the practice of histology.
-
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and use good judgment and prioritization.
-
Proficient in the use of computers related to the performance of essential duties.
License / Certification:
-
A valid HT (ASCP) Certificate
Preferred Position Qualifications:
-
One (1) year experience in acute hospital setting
Environmental Conditions:
-
Exposure to bio-hazardous substances.
-
Exposure to chemical and biological specimens.
