Veridiam Semi-Automated Tissue Arrayers

The Semi-Automated Veridiam Tissue Arrayers are based on proprietary patent-pending technologies and allow for creating customized tissue microarrays using multiple tissue cores on a single glass slide. These arrayers are the only tissue array instruments on the market that have a microscope station integrated with the donor and recipient block stations. All three stations are indexed with each other along the X-Y axes, and a unique multiple Z-height stop technology is introduced in the instrument design. These features provide enhanced ability to precisely locate the desired area of tissue, extract it quickly and accurately from the recipient block, and deliver the entire tissue core into the donor block.

Specific advantages of Semi-Automated Veridiam Arrayers include:

• Exact selection of the area of interest using stereo microscope
• Built-in automatic alignment of the donor slide and the donor block
• On- and off- microscope operating modes
• Precise extraction of every tissue core and delivery to the top of the recipient block
• Built-in automatic alignment of the donor block and recipient blocks
• No tissue compression
• Built-in indexing of the donor and recipient blocks
• Exact X-Y-Z adjustments, including three Z-height stops

Our tissue arrayer product line currently includes the VTA-100 series (based on binocular microscope stations) and the VTA-110 series (supplied with trinocular microscopes). See table below.

The VTA-100 (binocular) and VTA-110 (trinocular) arrayers are designed as the most basic semi-automated instruments.

VTA-100C and VTA-110C are supplied with digital cameras that can be customized to produce higher and lower resolution images. Each camera is provided with a standard USB cable and software package for PC and MAC operation systems. Also included is an adaptor manufactured by Veridiam to integrate the camera with the microscope station.

The most advanced models, VTA-100CC and VTA-110CC, are supplied with a digital camera and a laptop computer. Each laptop is fully configured and pre-loaded with the digital camera software and, per customers' request, with TMA Foresight software. The laptop will be customized according to each user's requirements.

Tissue Array Formats

The design of tissue microarrays prepared using the VTA-100 arrayer depends on the size of the donor paraffin block. We recommend making high-quality arrays, with a reasonable number of tissue cores per slide, allowing for pathologist-friendly imaging and examination of target tissues. Enclosed below are some exemplary tissue array formats:

Using the 2.0 mm Needles = 60 samples (6 x 10)
Using the 1.5 mm Needles = 98 samples (7 x 14)
Using the 1.0 mm Needles = 180 samples (10 x 18)
Using the 0.6 mm Needles = 720 samples (18 x 40)

Microarrays with more samples can be made if tissue cores are added towards the edges of the paraffin.

The microarray tissue section must be contained in the ~ 34 mm x 69 mm Working Area of the standard glass slide. The distance from either edge of the slide should be at least 1 mm.
