Membrane thickness
« on: December 08, 2008, 08:12:51 AM »
I have been asked to write a paper describing the proper method of determining thickness of membranes or biological layers. What I need is some advice on where to look to find out why thickness is of importance. I'd like to add this to the introduction before I get into the mathematics and a description of a protocol that implements the math.

thanks

It was therefore called by Henle the fenestrated membrane. This membrane forms
the chief thickness of the inner coat, and can be separated into several

Thanks for a reply, but your reply is clipped. It appears to be a paste and copy from another web page that lists a portion of Anatomy of the Human Body by Henry Gray.

I am not looking for a description of a membrane. Instead I want to know why its dimensions are of interest and what can be learned from making that measurement.

In certain disease conditions, membrane thickness changes. For example, some study showed in diabetic retinal disease, the retinal capillary basement membrane (RCBM) become thicker; The glomerular basement membrane is thicker in human glomerular diseases thus can help in diagnostic of such diseases.
