Where to get paraformaldehyde BEADS?
« on: October 08, 2004, 08:15:33 AM »
Hi,

I'm using PFA powder which is very messy and carcinogenic to make formaldehyde solution.

I wonder if PFA is also available as beads (instead of powder)?

This would make formaldehyde preparation A LOT more safer.

If you know where to get it, please post it here.

Thank you.

Paraformaldehyde powder or prill form dissolve into water as formaldehyde. You could just use the liquid form of 37% formaldehyde (considered 100%, since it is the saturated solution)and get the same result.

We buy ready made 16% ampoules of PFA which are great for our lab. It can be diluted in PBS to whatever % is needed for the application. Get them for about $20 for 10 ampoules of 10 ml of 16% PFA at EM Sciences:
