Basic heart perfusion for h&e staining
« on: January 27, 2014, 11:12:54 AM »
Hi, does anyone have tips how to puncture and then perfuse rat hearts to prepare them for h&e staining?  Where exactly to puncture the heart without ruining the tissues that will be examined? Also, what kind of solution should I used to perfuse the heart? % saline?

Thanks!!!

It is usually not necessary to do the perfusion for H&E staining. Just remove the heart and place in 10% formalin to fix for 2 days. You can cut the heart in half for better penetration.
