Re-using slide boxes
« on: August 07, 2015, 02:40:20 PM »
I have several wooden and plastic slide boxes that recently held slides in our -20 freezer. I've been told that I can re-use the plastic slide boxes as long as I soak/clean in a bleach solution, but I'm wondering: can I re-use the wooden slide boxes? If anyone has a good cleaning protocol for slide boxes (other than what I was told), I'd really appreciate it.

Why cleaning at all? Is there any evidence, that the container are contaminated with any tissue?

Why bleaching? Isn't a desinfectant sufficient?

The boxes don't look to have any tissue in/on them but there is a gummy residue is in the boxes, which is probably from the nail polish that was used to seal the slides.

If there is no danger to contaminate the new slides with anything, I would just wipe it out with a desinfectant and get rid of dust and dirt.
