nuclear meltdown

for optimal results we need TRIS EDTA buffer as a retrieval step. However the tissues look as if they are overheated, cooked, what I read is mentioned " nuclear meltdown"  .
There is no difference between using the microwave or an automated stainer.
Could it be related to the fixation of the tissues?
