Proliferating cells of gastric gland
« on: May 11, 2005, 11:08:32 PM »
Hi,

I like to know how I can identify proliferating stem cells in the gastric oxyntic unit? I heard about the oral administration of BrdU to the animals few hrs prior to sacrificing these animals, and BrdU labelling is assessed on the stomach subsequently. Is there an alternative to identify these stem cells without any chemical administration to the animal?

Thanks :D

Hi.

You could perform immunohistochemical staining for Ki-67.

Ki-67 is a good one. PCNA is the most sensitive one but may produce false positive staining. Other markers can be found in this page.
