ABC of Safety in the Biological Sciences
COSMETICS
Some cosmetics such as foundation creams, may provide a protective barrier against small splashes of reagents and solvents. However cosmetics may also react with chemicals used in the laboratory and should not be worn if this is a risk. Thickly applied cosmetics tend to flake and these flakes may contaminate a specimen. It may be necessary in these instances for a mask to be worn. Cosmetics should never be applied in the laboratory.
