Histopathology Artifacts Quiz
ANSWER CASE 22
This slide shows ice-crystal artefact which appears as intercellular
clefts in highly cellular tissues and as intracellular clefts and
vacuoles in skeletal muscle. This common problem results from the
slow freezing of tissue through inappropriate quenching techniques
or the selection of tissue samples too large to permit rapid
freezing throughout the specimen. Consequently ice-crystal artefact
is most prominent in the central region of the specimen. Answer ice
crystal artefact.
