DID YOU KNOW 13?
Did you know that nucleoli stain blue after Zenker
fixation?
Nucleoli are composed mainly of RNA and usually stain red after
eosin staining in a Haematoxylin and Eosin. So it is unusual that
after Zenker fixation they stain blue. Try it out on a piece of
tissue from a tumour, where cells are very active and you should
find many blue nucleoli but they can sometimes be difficult to
detect in a nucleus that also stains the same colour.
